Don McCarren, DO, FAAN, FAANEM

Dr. McCarren was born in New York and raised in Oakland, New Jersey and Miami, Florida.  He attended college at Vanderbilt University in Nashville Tennessee before moving to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania for his medical training.  He resided in the suburbs of Philadelphia while running a Neurology practice and helping to raise two children, Connor and Shannon with his wife of 35 years, Sarah.

Dr. McCarren brings three decades of experience in neurologic care to southwest Florida. He is an appointed Fellow of the American Academy of Neurology and double board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and The American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.Dr. McCarren earned his medical degree at The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an internship at Bryn Mawr Hospital and neurology residency at Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia.

Dr. McCarren has been awarded a grant from Pew Charitable Trusts that led to copyrighting a computer program on Dementia.  He was awarded an International Fellowship in Neurology scholarship that allowed for neurologic study at The Institute of Neurology, Queen’s Square, London, England.

Dr. McCarren was chief Neurology Resident in his 3rd year at Thomas Jefferson University and has been involved in the neurologic education of medical students and neurology residents at both Thomas Jefferson University and Hahnemann University.

Dr. McCarren has been a principal investigator to several clinical studies in his areas of expertise and has successfully run two prior neurologic practices in Philadelphia.

He currently serves on the Advisory Council for the Dubin Center, Fort Myers and has been active in the community giving lectures on memory and the evolution of dementia.
