What Is a Neurocognitive Specialist?

A Neurocognitive Specialist is a medical professional who specializes in the diagnosis, treatment, and management of all types of cognitive disorders including neurodegenerative diseases, that lead to cognitive impairment and dementia.

Neurodegenerative disorders are diseases that cause the progressive degeneration and death of nerve cells in the brain, leading to a range of neurological symptoms such as memory loss and dementia, loss of ability to communicate with others, and loss of the ability to function independently.

Conditions we treat:

  • Alzheimer’s Disease
  • Vascular Dementia
  • Lewy Body Dementia
  • Mild Cognitive Impairment
  • Frontotemporal Dementia
  • Mixed Dementia

When Should I Get My Memory Tested?

Schedule a visit with our care team if you or a loved one are:

  • Forgetting names or appointments.
  • Misplacing items such as keys or wallets.
  • Asking the same questions repeatedly.
  • Having difficulty with routine tasks.
  • Having difficulty remembering words.
  • Mild cognitive impairment (MCI)
  • Frontotemporal dementia
  • Mixed dementia

These symptoms can be early signs of Alzheimer’s Disease or other types of Dementia. The sooner they are treated, the better the outcome.

What does cognitive impairment look like?

Cognitive impairment is represented by changes in speech, memory, and motor skills that do not necessarily affect a person’s ability to go about their everyday lives. However, the changes are serious enough that you or your loved ones may have noticed a difference.

These symptoms can be early signs of Alzheimer’s Disease or other types of Dementia. The sooner we identify and provide treatment, the better the outcome.

Immediate response to our every need even though we are thousands of miles away.
Totally supportive. Good interview skills. Helpful.
All the staff was really nice and Kelly was great. She listened to me. She took the time with me and she didn’t rush me. I give her 10 stars. She’s been my neurologist for 4 years and I would never see another neurologist. Kelly O’Brien always explains everything to you as well. She cares about her patients and it shows. She is the absolute best. I’m so thankful that I found her in 2019 when I got sick. Thankful is an understatement. I’m so grateful for her.
They are caring and involved
April the PA that we saw was absolutely the best. She was so knowledgeable about the brain and issues with dementia. We were very impressed with her to end of care. We look forward to go back for our second visit.
I am so happy to have found April and the whole staff at the MemoryTreatment Center. Everyone is so caring and supportive. I know I am now in the best hands.
